“I’m dressed in white because the last three days we’ve mourned Baba. But today we are not mourning; we are celebrating a life well lived,” he said, setting the tone for a tribute filled with emotion and gratitude.
Junior described his father as a man who gave himself entirely to his family, friends, and country.
He said the family was grateful for the sacrifices Raila made throughout his lifetime, often putting others before himself.
“Baba gave all of us his life. Today is to say, thank you. Back to Baba from all of us,” he said.
He recalled how Raila’s influence extended beyond politics and leadership, shaping the lives of many who looked up to him as a mentor.
“You gave all of us your life. You stayed with us, and you showed us how to live a good life, and for that, we are extremely thankful,” Raila added.
Junior remembered his father’s laughter, warmth, and love for music and dancing, saying those moments would always remain close to their hearts.
“Baba, you left us with your return as the winners. We will miss them, your joy, your laughter, and we will greatly miss you and all the dancing styles that you used to have.”
He said Raila had instilled in his family the courage to fight for what they believe in, always guided by integrity and justice.
“You taught us the Constitution and how to be lawyers and stand for what we know,” he said, noting that his father’s teachings would live on in their actions.
In closing, Junior brought a touch of lightness to the moment, saying his father had managed to give Kenyans one last gift.
“I know Baba is smiling because he’s given us so many holidays, and now he has given us Easter in October,” he said, sparking laughter and applause from mourners.
